NASA reaches out to future scientists

Kids from Cache Valley middle schools built catapults, viewed meteorites through telescopes and ran through the snow Saturday parading their model comets at NASA Space Science Day. The event, hosted by NASA and the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, was held in the Engineering Building.

The SHPE Foundation Chair is Now Highest Ranking Latina Electrical Engineer at Caltrans

February 21, 2012, CA – Former SHPE (Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, Inc) National President and current Chair of the SHPE Foundation, was promoted to California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) Deputy District Director of Operations overseeing a staff of more than 380 people in Los Angeles and Ventura Counties. In her new position, Ms Gomez will be responsible for the planning, organizing and directing of activities for the Caltrans Operations Division.

This year's annual conference sponsored by Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) and SHPE Foundation will bring together educators, students, and leaders in government and industry. The purpose of this summit is to advance scientific and technical education, career paths, and life goals for a variety of Hispanic and Latino students across the United States.

Ay Mijo/a Book Series

The Ay Mijo/a Book Series

The Ay Mijo/a Book Series is a great resource for libraries, schools, churches, YMCAs, boys and girls clubs and personal libraries. The books are a GREAT way to motivate young students to be the next generation engineer.

The Ay Mijo/a Book Series starts off with 24-short inspirational stories of Hispanic female and male engineers as they grew up with their families, spending special holidays at home as they grew to become one of America's most successful engineers serving as a role-model for many other children. Books are available online for a low price of $14.95 and $17.95. Proceeds from the sale of these books go to the SHPE Foundation Scholarship Endowment, which supports college scholarships for deserving Hispanic students.
