SHPE Foundation

Graduate Institute

The Graduate Institute is an annual two-day program hosting a series of graduate-level seminars addressing issues that directly impact the academic and professional development of Latino graduate students. Past seminars have focused on writing an effective curriculum vitae, the academic job search, opportunities for non-academic research, negotiating the thesis/dissertation writing process, nurturing the advisor/mentor relationship, post-doctoral opportunities, and graduate funding.

All Latino Master's or doctoral students, who are currently pursuing a technical degree in any STEM-related field are invited to attend. Students DO NOT have to be a SHPE member. While any graduate student may attend, all attendees must submit the Graduate Institute Application Form (CV and essay are not required unless you are also applying for an SHPE Foundation Travel Grant).

Travel Grants

SHPE Foundation Travel Grants are awarded on a competitive basis to attend the Graduate Institute. Latino graduate students, who are interested in applying for a travel grant must submit the complete Graduate Institute Application, which will be available on this web site shortly. Students who apply for, but do not receive the travel grant, may still attend the Institute.
