SHPE Foundation Pre-College Symposium
The SHPE Foundation Pre-College Symposium was created to inspire underserved youth populations to attend college while also introducing STEM careers through hands-on activities and workshops. By encouraging middle and high school students to study STEM, leading companies will have access to a pool of diverse, qualified applicants.
The Pre-College Symposium is held every year in conjunction with the SHPE National Conference. As of the 2012 Pre-College Symposium, the event occurs at a college located within driving distance of the SHPE National Conference. By holding the symposium at a college, students are able to experience a campus and the college atmopshere while also being inspired to receive a post-secondary education.
The one-day event features several hands-on activities and workshops related to financial aid, college choice, college admissions, and navigating college life. Students will also attend a college fair and meet with college representatives. Last year’s Pre-College Symposium occurred at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis and welcomed over 500 attendees.
