SHPE/CDM Smith Scholarship and Internship

The Scholarship Application is now closed.

DEADLINE: Postmarked by December 20th, 2013.

CDM Smith, in association with the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE), have established a scholarship/internship program for undergraduate students (or students who are enrolled to start a Master’s program fall 2014) who have a 3.0 grade point average or better and who are majoring in a variety of engineering, science, or construction disciplines.  Some of these programs include environmental, chemical, civil, structural, geotechnical, electrical (power systems), and mechanical engineering (HVAC, Fire protection), as well as geology, geography, geoenvironmental, geographic information systems, hydrology, hydrogeology, and construction management.

Program components include a 10 week minimum summer internship, mentorship, and academic scholarship for the ensuing academic year. Students will be selected by a CDM Smith committee. The internship will consist of a summer work program that must start no later than June 16th, 2014 and run at least through August 15th, 2014.  Students are welcome to start earlier or end later than these dates. Selected students will have the opportunity to work on a number of engineering projects at a CDM Smith office in the domestic United States. The key to this concept will be CDM Smith’s assignment of a mentor to each student participant. After the successful completion of the summer internship, participants will receive a $6,000 academic scholarship to help cover expenses for the next academic year.

Annual per-student award includes the $6,000 academic scholarship but also a paid internship, and up to $2,500 in living and housing reimbursement for students relocated beyond 50 miles of their home or school address. Students will intern at a CDM Smith office, based on the availability of appropriate CDM Smith assignments. Internship locations include, but are not limited to: Albany, NY; Cambridge, MA; Chicago, IL; Dallas, TX; Denver, CO; Edison, NJ; Falls Church, VA; Irvine, CA; Orlando, FL; and Phoenix, AZ.  Students must be flexible to work anywhere in the domestic United States to qualify.
