Each year the SHPE Foundation awards scholarships to engineering and science students throughtout the nation. Scholarships are awarded at the beginning of each academic year based upon academic achievement, financial need, involvement in campus and community activities, career goals and counselor recommendation.
Since its inception in 1976, the SHPE Foundation has awarded over two million dollars to 3,071 deserving engineering and science. majors. The success of our program is based on the actual number of scholarship recipients continuing in the engineering and science fields. Bi-annual questionnaires are sent out to past scholarship recipients and 1999 survey results indicate that of those still attending college on an undergraduate level, 95% are still majoring in science and engineering; graduate students - 89%. Of the graduate students, 79% are pursuing a masters' degree; 21% are doctoral candidates. Of those who have graduated, 99% obtained a degree in engineering or science. And of those in the work force (34%), 99% are employed in the engineering or science professions.
